After the 2016-2017 school year, we formed a vision to dramatically change our library to better serve our students and staff. A significant part of that vision was moving our book collection to teacher classrooms and turning the space into a 21st Century Learning Lab that provides the flexible learning space students need to engage in Project Based Learning and to develop the 21st century skills necessary to be productive, responsible citizens. The Learning Lab is equipped with nine dry-erase markerboard top activity tables with charging stations, tilt-top markerboard tables, nine 50 inch TV monitors, soundproof glass conference rooms, 16 Class VR headsets, MacBooks, and a student led Makerspace.

In an effort to increase access to ebooks and digital library resources, NHS has partnered with the Dayton Metro Library to become one of the first schools in Montgomery County to provide electronic library cards for all students. Students will now have the ability to conveniently borrow ebooks and audiobooks from the Northmont Digital Library and Dayton Metro Library through the Sora app on their iPads.
On Monday, Dec. 10, all students received an email with their unique barcode, pin, and sign in instructions. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to provide equitable access to information resources and cultivate partnerships within the local community to promote engagement and a lifelong learning process. As advocates for student privacy, we want to ensure all parents and guardians that no sensitive student data has been shared during this process. |
Northmont High School is proud to announce we have adopted Bookshare as a free service to provide equitable access to our diverse student population. Hundreds of thousands of people with dyslexia, learning disabilities, visual impairments, physical disabilities, and other reading barriers have read millions of Bookshare books. It has empowered them to study for school, pursue careers, and read for fun.
